# Rate limits

> How many requests you can send to the SimpleSell API per second.

The SimpleSell API limits how many requests you can send per second. The limit applies to your SimpleSell account as a whole, so all API tokens of your account share it. Your limit depends on your SimpleSell plan:

| Plan | Requests per second |
| - | - |
| Essential | 1 |
| Basic | 2 |
| Premium | 5 |

<Note>
  During your trial, you can send 1 request per second.
</Note>

## Rate limit headers

Responses to authenticated requests contain your current rate limit status:

| Header | Description |
| - | - |
| `X-RateLimit-Limit` | Number of requests you can send per second |
| `X-RateLimit-Remaining` | Number of requests you can still send in the current second |

## Exceeding the limit

If you exceed your rate limit, the API responds with `429 Too Many Requests` and these additional headers:

| Header | Description |
| - | - |
| `Retry-After` | Number of seconds to wait before you send the next request |
| `X-RateLimit-Reset` | Time when you can send requests again, as a Unix timestamp |

```http theme={null}
HTTP/1.1 429 Too Many Requests
X-RateLimit-Limit: 1
X-RateLimit-Remaining: 0
Retry-After: 1
X-RateLimit-Reset: 1792316473
{
  "message": "Too many requests."
}
```

## Stay within the limit

* Wait for the time in `Retry-After` before you retry a request that returned `429`.
* Send requests one after another instead of in parallel.
* If several systems use the API, keep in mind that they share your account's limit, even if each uses its own token.
* Wait at least one second between status requests when you [wait for a parcel to be processed](/api/v1/quickstart).
* Use [filters](/api/v1/pagination-sorting-filtering#filtering) to fetch only the parcels you need instead of fetching all parcels repeatedly.
